I expected to love this—it purports to be a book about the author’s seven writing mentors and the lessons she learned from them. The lessons, such as they are, are kind of buried. and I didn’t enjoy reading about the author’s relationships with her mentors as much as I hoped I would. I had the feeling in some cases that the other people involved in the various relationships would have a very different take on them than the author, and not necessarily a favorable one. Not a bad read, but not a great one either.

Hmmm … I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy it. Honestly, doesn’t sound like one I’ll pick up based on what you wrote here.

This author’s voice might really appeal to someone else—but, yeah, it did nothing for me. I wanted to like her, and was almost surprised when I found myself not liking her.
