Do you tell your IRL friends about your blog?

Hi—I’m new to this board and relatively new to blogging, but I do have a question about Blog-ettiqutte. Do you tell your off-line friends about your blog? At first, I didn’t want to, but then I figured, wouldn’t I want to know if something new, fun and wonderful was going on in their lives? So, I emailed a link to a few friends with a standard “feel free to check it out, but don’t feel obligated” disclaimer. I was on the phone with one such recipient and do you know what she said? something along the lines of how she wishes that I’d never given her a link to my blog because now she feels guilty for not reading it. what the hell? Am I crazy or is that a little much? I told her that I don’t expect her to read it, but now I feel like asking for the link back, lol, or something equally mature. The weird thing is that I’m really ok with IRL people not reading my blog because I feel like it gives me more freedom in some respects, but the comment “I wish I never had your link” sort of annoyed me.
Yeah, maybe I do have PMS. why do you ask?
;)

Hmmm …. I didn’t mention it specifically to anyone. There is a link at the bottom of my e-mail, so if I ever send then am e-mail, they get it. Also, there is a link on my facebook page which some people have.
Well, I have mentioned it to some people but only if they ask about it and want the link.
I have no idea who IRL reads it and who does it. But every so often someone will say something like “oh yes, I read about it on your blog” which kind of catches me off guard. For al I know, that was the only entry they ever read though! LOL
That is a weird comment your friend made though. Maybe she is PMSing too? LOL! But if you told her it’s okay not to read it, then it is now officially her problem I think =)

That was an odd comment to make, but I wouldn’t make too much of it. It’s probably more about her than about you—maybe she is feeling beset with family or other obligations, and worried that you would be offended if she hadn’t kept up on your blog. Perhaps there’s someone else in her life who feels that way! I guess if it comes up again, I’d reassure her that it’s no big deal, and that you enjoy catching up face to face, too.

Hi, ladies. Good discussion, really. I have a blog, too, and I have sent the link out to everyone that I think would be interested in reading it. I even have used www.StatCounter.com to set up tracking all the traffic that comes to the page. It tells you how many times they’ve come back (based on their IP address), and how long they have stayed, and what link they used to get to my blog.
It’s interesting to see who is really interested in reading your page and who isn’t. LOL!!!
I sent the link to a friend of mine recently, asking her to check it out (since she and I rarely talk much), but I still don’t see anything anywhere showing that she checked the blog. I mean, if people don’t at least CLICK on the link, it makes me think they aren’t interested in knowing what’s going on in our life, you know??
I know I shouldn’t take it personal when friends and family don’t view my blog, but how can you NOT take it personal? I mean, I put a lot of time into my blog, post pictures of my son, etc., in hopes of sharing our life with friends and family. And if they don’t make time after you’ve given them the link, then they really don’t care.
Just my opinion!
Anyhow, I just discovered Motherhood.net and I think it’s great for moms to be out here blogging away their life! Our kids will thank us (and curse us, maybe??!) when they are older and see all that we write about them. LOL

Serena, I still wouldn’t take it personally. I have people who are important to me, both IRL friends and friends I’ve made through reading their blogs, and sometimes I truly don’t have time to check them all. There are probably at least 50 bloggers whose blogs I like to read, and sometimes I just don’t get there.
I love the Motherhood, too! Glad you’re here.

I have not told friends and family about my blog yet, but I think I will eventually. I was thinking of including it in our holiday letter or something, but right now it’s still relatively new and I’d like it to be more established before I make a big announcement or have a lot of my IRL friends and family see what I do.

I think it depends a lot on what kind of blog you have. If I had known how much I would feel like complaining about people I know on my blog, I would never have told anyone IRL about it!
